Greer’s 32 leads West Carroll past McKenzie

West Carroll got off to a quick start Tuesday night on the road against McKenzie and cruised to an 85-48 win in the District 13-A opener for both teams. War Eagle senior Thomas Greer had a huge night, leading all scorers with 32 points. Xavier Cunningham added 10 for West Carroll (2-2), which jumped out to a 27-11 first quarter lead and never looked back. West Carroll won the third quarter 31-14. Cody Bullington led McKenzie with 13 points.

Adamsville downs West Carroll, keeps rolling

Photo by Beth Tidwell Heading into Friday night’s game with West Carroll, Adamsville had already clinched the District 15-A title. If the Cardinals were lacking motivation, it didn’t show. Melvin Daniels had three short touchdown runs early and the Cardinals (9-1) cruised to the 46-13 victory. Cody Nelson and Andrew Waynescott each had second half touchdown runs for West Carroll (5-4), but it wasn’t nearly enough. Adamsville is off Week 10 before beginning the playoffs Nov. 6. West Carroll will host Bruceton Friday night.

Five area teams have turned things around this season

Photo by Roger Smith Heading into the 2009 football season, there were several teams that we all knew were going to be very good this season. Big things were expected of teams like Milan and Henry County, and they’ve delivered. Both teams were undefeated through Week 7. Mitchell, a team that advanced to the Class 3A state title game, has been very good this season. Same goes Memphis University School, the defending DII-AA state champs. But every year some teams come of out of seemingly nowhere and grab headlines by dramatically increasing their win total from the previous season. Last year it was teams like South Fulton and Kirby. This year there is no shortage of teams like that. Let’s start with Obion County Central.…
