MHEA edges USJ

Photo by Beau Arnold John Ross Glover continued his strong play Tuesday night for USJ, but the Bruins fell to MHEA on the road, 79-71. Glover worked the paint for 34 points, but MHEA made an early lead stand up. MHEA led by eight after one quarter. USJ trimmed the lead to four in the third quarter, but could not come all the way back., Colton Norton added 19 for USJ and Will Pierce added eight. Josh Brown led MHEA with 25 points and Tariq Lockhard added 23. USJ (2-4) is playing without several starters who are still playing football.

USJ advances to title game in dramatic fashion

Jake Overbey and Austin Martindale got together when it mattered most. Following a Davidson Academy turnover with just over two minutes left in the game, Overbey found Martindale on a five-yard touchdown pass with 12 seconds left to give the Bruins a 16-13 DII-A semifinal state playoff win in Nashville. The win propels USJ into the state title game Dec. 3 in Cookeville. Davidson Academy held Overbey, a Mr. Football finalist, in check most of the game. Overbey finished with just 92 passing yards, but he got hot on the final drive. Tyler Jones had a 22-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to put the Bruins ahead 9-6.
