DuBois, Carson leading way for SBEC

Photo by Charlie Sutton Ryan DuBois and Jeremy Carson have been mainstays on the SBEC football team since they were freshmen. The duo, now seniors, is hoping to go out with a bang. So far, so good. DuBois, the quarterback, has thrown for 762 yards and nine touchdowns this season while leading the team to a 5-3 record and into position to do some damage in the playoffs. He’s also a dangerous runner. Carson has been eating up yardage at a rapid pace with 577 rushing yards and five scores. Taylor Akin and Christian Crawford, two more members of a strong senior class, are also making big contributions. USJ volleyball rallies to take down SBEC

Photo by Kim Cupples Things didn’t look good early for the University School of Jackson volleyball team Tuesday afternoon at home in a key DII-A-West match with Southern Baptist Educational Center. But behind the stellar play of Kayla Petty, Zuzanna Wojtas and Halle Priester, the Lady Bruins erased a two games to none deficit to win in dramatic fashion 20-25, 23-25, 25-11, 25-22 and 15-9. Petty had 15 kills and 13 digs for USJ and Wojtas added 11 kills. Abbey Orr had nine kills for the winners and 19 assists. Priester got the ball where it needed to be and finished with a team-high 23 assists. Maggie Rheney added 14 digs and Anna Giddens had 12. USJ moved to 13-2 overall and 7-2 in league…

SBEC stays on course defeating Fayette Academy 24-6

Photo by Charlie Sutton. Fayette Academy hosted SBEC in a Division II-A match-up Friday night and fell to the Trojans 24-6. Rain began to fall as the captains met in the center of the field for the coin toss, however it did not seem to bother the Vikings as they took an early 6-0 lead.  The rain subsided and SBEC went to work both on the ground and in the air with 24 unanswered points. The win moved to the Trojans to 3-1.  The Vikings fell to 1-2.
