Senior Jonathan Avent, a 6-1 forward, is very athletic and will lead the way again for South Fulton. Junior Alex Gallien, also 6-1, will be a key guy in the paint.  Hunter Allen is a senior forward with experience.  Sophomore Montre Lewis saw plenty of action last year at point guard and is expected to take over the role full-time.  Junior C.J. South Fulton is in the playoffs

Photo by Gary Smith A year ago South Fulton started the season 6-0, but missed the postseason. That won’t be the case this year. Thanks to a 3-2 District 14-A record (5-4 overall), the Red Devils have already qualified for the Class A playoffs, regardless of the outcome of Friday night’s game against Union City. South Fulton will finish second among Class 1A teams in the district, making them an automatic qualifier. It’s been quite a turnaround for the Red Devils under second-year coach Kelly Spivey. South Fulton went 0-10 in 2006 and 1-9 in 2007 before going 6-4 last season.

Photo by Lisa Smith Nothing is certain yet, but as the football season heads down the home stretch South Fulton is in excellent shape to make the playoffs for the first time in several seasons. Last year the team started 6-0, but narrowly missed a playoff berth. A huge win over Lake County Oct. 9 put the Red Devils at 4-3 overall and, more importantly, 3-1 in District 14-A. South Fulton needs to finish in the top two among the five 1A teams in the district to become playoff eligible. Currently they are second and have already beaten the three teams - Lake County, Halls and Greenfield - behind them.
