Crockett County cruises past Sheffield

Photo by Robert Allen/Story by Fred Brooks Crockett County dominated the game from beginning to end Friday night in the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs against host Sheffield. The Cavaliers (11-1) won by a final score of 30-12 and will face Liberty Friday night with a semifinal berth on the line. Crockett County scored its first touchdown when Darius Bass scored on a three-yard run. Crockett County’s second score came early in the second quarter when Austin Taylor scored on a two-yard run. Bass added a three-yard toucdown run in the second quarter. Taylor scored on a two-yard run in the fourth period. Julian Stafford returned a fumble 42 yards for Sheffield’s first touchdown in the the third quarter and Denzel Wilson…

The Basics Head coach:  Jerome Griffin (7th season) District:  16-AA 2008 Record:  8-4 Playoffs:  Second round Base offense:  Pro Set Base defense:  3-5 Returning starters:  7 offense, 6 defense Overview Speedy senior Denzell Wilson return to lead the defense from his linebacker position. Senior Emanuel Tennial is another top player for the Knights who will see action on both sides of the ball. With the departure of Demario Carter, one of the top runners in the city the past two seaons, Tennial could be his replacement at running back. Seniors Brian Leachman and Michael Barber are all-around athletes who will be on the field most of the time.
