Late TD propels Hardin County past Ridgeway

Hardin County got a fourth quarter touchdown to finish off an impressive comeback and defeat visiting Ridgeway 21-20 Friday night in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs. The Tigers (9-2) will host Melrose Friday night in round two. Quarterback Barker Burnham scored the game winner on a one-yard run and Eddie Espinosa added the all important extra point. Ridgeway (4-6) led 14-0 after one quarter. Burnham hit Carter Carroll on a 21-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and Daniel Avila scored on a one-yard run in the third quarter. Mason Tidwell led Hardin County with 75 yards on 18 carries.

The Basics Head coach:  Rod Brown (2nd season) District:  15-AAA 2008 Record:  7-4 Playoffs:  First round Base offense:  I/Spread Base defense:  4-3/50 Returning starters:  5 offense, 5 defense Overview Seniors Desi J. Lane and Desi T. Lane are expected to be two of the leaders on the team. Desi J. Lane will find time at wide receiver and defensive back, while Desi T. Lane is a little bigger and will play defensive end. Reggie Edwards is another senior who can play several different positions. Seniors Bryan Burns and Kyron Tucker will find a place at one of the skill positions. The line will be led by seniors Austin Eskridge (6-2, 245), James Maclin (6-4, 225) and Willie Brown (6-0, 240).
