08-09 Record:  8-15, district tournament Head Coach: Tim Halford District: 13-AA Returning Starters G - Madison Futtrell (Sr.) F - Courtney Lemons (Sr.) Starters Lost G - Marquis Richardson G - Tyler Starnes F - Jarvae Moore 09-10 Outlook The Cougars will be without their top three scorers from last year.  Marquis Richardson, who is now playing for UT-Martin, averaged over 20 points a game and will be sorely missed.  Senior point guard Madison Futtrell is back to run the offense.  Senior forward Courtney Lemons (6-4) is a big body inside who will need to have a big season.  Junior guard Cedric Williams saw plenty of time last year as a freshman.  Senior Devante Taylor (6-3) and junior James Huddleston (6-6), both varsity newcomers, will…

08-09 Record:  3-26, region quarters Head Coach:  Mike Anderson District: 13-AAA Returning Starters G - Crystal Williams (Jr.) G - Angelica Wherry (Jr.) F - Quanesha Richardson (Sr.) Starters Lost G - Chelsea Jacobs G - Rachel Rice 09-10 Outlook The Lady Cougars have been a very young team the past two seasons.  This year they should have a little more experience.  The team’s top two scorers from last year, senior Quanesha Richardson and junior Crystal Williams, both return.  Richardson is a powerful forward who likes to get to the rim.  Williams is a super-quick point guard.  Junior Angelica Wherry can shoot the three ball well.  Kacey Bumpus, a junior, will see time in the backcourt.  Senior Hope Holland (5-9) will provide depth in the…

Westwood edges Cougars in mudfest

Photo by Fred Brooks In some incredibly muddy conditions Friday night in Munford, Westwood got the best of the Cougars and earned a spot in the Class 2A playoffs. Munford quarterback Dean Harrison hit Madison Futrell on an 85-yard touchdown pass in first half to give his team a 7-6 lead, but the Longhorns recovered to earn a 22-20 win. The season ended for Munford at 3-7. Westwood (3-7) qualified for the Class 2A playoffs and will travel to Riverside Friday night for round one.
