Greer’s 32 leads West Carroll past McKenzie

West Carroll got off to a quick start Tuesday night on the road against McKenzie and cruised to an 85-48 win in the District 13-A opener for both teams. War Eagle senior Thomas Greer had a huge night, leading all scorers with 32 points. Xavier Cunningham added 10 for West Carroll (2-2), which jumped out to a 27-11 first quarter lead and never looked back. West Carroll won the third quarter 31-14. Cody Bullington led McKenzie with 13 points.

McKenzie comes up short against Trousdale County

McKenzie had its chances to score Friday night at Trousdale County, but could never quite punch it in. The result was a 7-0 loss in the Class 2A state semifinals, leaving the Rebels (11-2) one win short of the state title game for the second straight season. Joey Cox scored on a one-yard run on Trousdale County’s first possession of the game and the defense made it hold up. McKenzie got into Trousdale County territory on four separate occasions, but a turnover and a long missed field goal kept them off the scoreboard. McKenzie offense too much for Adamsville

Austin McKinney and Quinton Bowden each had outstanding games Friday night in McKenzie as the Rebels defeated Adamsville 46-20 in the Class 2A state quarterfinals. The Rebels (11-1) move into the semfinals and will travel to Trousdale County Friday night. McKenzie led 18-3 at the half and put the game away in the third quarter. Jake Johnson had a two-yard touchdown run in the period, John Johnson ran back an intererception 30 yards for a score and McKinney hit Richie Clark on a 69-yard touchdown pass. Bowden rushed for 121 yards on 15 carries and McKinney completed 7 of 21 passes for 128 yards. Bradley Melton led Adamsville, completing 13 of 21 passes for 154 yards. .
