Golden Tornadoes avenge loss to Huntingdon

They say revenge is a dish best served cold. That was certainly the case Friday night in Union City. The Golden Tornadoes, who lost to Huntingdon 44-35 in Week 3, had little trouble with the Mustangs Friday night in the Class A state quartefinals, winning 30-7. Kennon Holder, the area’s leading rusher, broke an 80-yard run early in the third quarter to trim Union City’s lead to 17-7, but it was all UC after that. Josh Nicks and Kendrick Price each had short touchdown runs in the third quarter as the Golden Tornadoes pulled away. Union City (10-2) travels to Wayne County (12-0) next Friday night in the state semifinals. Chase Bowling, UC’s quarterback, had a huge game, rushing for 124 yards on 22 carries.…

McKenzie shuts out Huntingdon

Both offenses were slowed down by sloppy conditions Friday night in McKenzie. But the Rebels came up with the game’s only scores and defeated rival Huntingdon 17-0 in the regular season finale. Austin McKinne hit John Johnson on a 12-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and the defense took care of the rest, holding Huntingdon star running back Kennon Holder to 74 yards on 25 carries. Alex Rider added a 32-yard field goal in the second quarter and Quinton Bowden scored on a 16-yard run in the fourth quarter. McKenzie (9-1) will have a bye Friday in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs before hosting the Riverside/Westwood winner Nov. 13. Huntdingon (7-3) also has a bye Friday in the Class 1A…

Huntingdon shuts out Gleason

Photo by Beth Tidwell Huntingdon scored six rushing touchdowns in the first half Friday night at home en route to a 55-0 District 13-A win over Gleason. Kennon Holder had touchdown runs of 10 and 44 yards and Britton Thompson added scoring runs of 47, 3 and 29 yards. Chance Carlton had a 35-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter and a 90-yarder in the third quarter. Nathan Powell added a two-yard touchdown run in the fourth period. Carlton led Huntingdon with 137 rushing yards. Holder finished with 131 and Thompson added 114. Nicky Spain had 30 yards on 11 carries for Gleason. Huntingdon improved to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the district. Gleason fell to 5-3 and 1-3.
