Photo by: Roger Smith 08-09 Record: 20-11, region semis Head Coach:  Louis Johnson District:  14-A Returning Starters G - Petra Hubbard (Sr.) Starters Lost G - Celisha Harper F - Courtney Norman C - Tasha Davis 09-10 Outlook The Lady Vikings took a huge leap forward last season.  A year after winning 13 games Humboldt won 20 and finished just two wins away from a state tournament berth.  Humboldt will have to go to battle without some key players, namely Celisha Harper, Tasha Davis and Courtney Norman.  Senior guard Petra Hubbard has been a starter since she was a freshman and will be leaned on heavily.  Seniors Keisha King and Marquisha Emerson could be factors this season as head coach Louis Johnson tries to find…

Humboldt defeats Douglass at Crump

Photo by Jeff Ireland Quan Campbell and Darren Dunbar each had big games Friday at Crump Stadium in Memphis and Humboldt defeated Douglass 33-14 in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs. The Vikings (7-4) will travel to Adamsville Friday night for round two. Humbold led 21-14 at the half before Dunbar hit Campbell on a 29-yard touchdown pass and Campbell scored on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Dunbar hit Antonio Brooks on a 19-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter after Humboldt recovered a Douglass fumble on the opening kickoff. Campbell scored on an eight-yard run in the second quarter to put the Vikings ahead 14-0. Dunbar threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Brian Harris…

Union City takes down Humboldt

Photo by Beth Tidwell For a while Friday night, it looked like Humboldt might spoil Union City’s homecoming night. But the Golden Tornadoes scored three second half touchdowns to blow open a close game and win 42-14. Trailing 21-0 early in the second quarter, Humboldt got a 57-yard touchdown run by Quan Campbell and a 43-yard touchdown pass from Darren Dunbar to Zach Shepard in the second quarter to trim the lead to seven points. In the final moments of the second quarter, Union City fumbled on its own five-yard line, but Humboldt (4-4) couldn’t punch it in. It was all Union City (5-2) from there.
