Ripley pushes past Hillcrest in second half

Ripley trailed Hillcrest at the half 8-6 Friday night. But the Tigers’ homecoming crowd went home happy as the Tigers rallied in the second half for a 28-8 win. Garvon Bonds capped off an 11-play, 70-yard drive in the third quarter with a four-yard touchdown run to give the Tigers a 14-8 lead they would never lose. An Eric Scruggs 48-yard punt return set up a two-yard run touchdown run by Brandon Blackwell later in the half. A Joseph Bursey interception followed and led to Ripley’s final score on a Bonds touchdown run. Blackwell scored Ripley’s first touchdown on a two-yard run. Marquette Dockery threw a 15-yard touchdown pass for Hillcrest in the first quarter. Bursey led Ripley (3-4) with 139 yards on 20 carries.…

The Basics Head coach:  Robert Johnson (2nd season) District:  16-AA 2008 Record:  3-8 Playoffs:  First round Base offense:  Multiple Base defense:  4-3 Returning starters:  5 offense, 5 defense Overview The Vikings made the playoffs last season and even pulled an upset on the road at McNairy Central. Hillcrest figures to be led by senior quarterback Marquette Dockery, who had a solid 2008 season. Junior Xavious Boddie will be in the mix on offense and defense. Seniors like Michael Borders and Nicholas Boddie figure to be leaders. Several young players will get a chance to shine as well. Borders is the most experienced receiver on the team.
