Harding holds off Rossville in DII-A action

Rossville threatened to make a game of it for a while, but in the end, Harding Academy had too much firepower Friday night at home and won the DII-A game 28-7. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Rossville’s Weston Locastro found Greg Sheehan on a 10-yard touchdown pass to cut the Harding lead to 21-7. Rossville recovered the ensuing onside kick and had a chance to cut the lead further, but was stopped at the Harding 20. On the next play Terence Taylor scored on an 80-yard touchdown run to put the game out of reach. Harding led 21-0 at the half. Harding hoops teams looking for continued success

The two Harding Academy basketball teams have similar goals: get to the state tournament and do some damage. The biggest difference is the boys’ team, which won it all last year, knows exactly what it takes. But the Lady Lions, a team full of youth, are showing some good signs. Lausanne, the defending champs, is clearly the team to beat.  In early December, Harding lost to the Lady Lynx by 35.  A month and a half later the game was much more competitive, with Harding dropping a 17-point decision. 2008 In ReviewHarding had its sights set on a state championship when the season began and they got about as close as possible without winning one, dropping a heart breaker in the title game to Davidson, a team they beat in the regular season. Nevertheless, it was a season to remember for the Lions and their fans. Senior wide receiver Marlon Brown, the No. 1 recruit in the state and the Mr. Football winner, had another monster year. He finished with 956 yards receiving and 702 rushing for 23 total touchdowns. In the title game he had TD catches of 67 and 55 yards and TD runs for 73 and 23 yards.
