Hardin County holds off McNairy girls

Carnesha Bradley was the only player to score in double figures Tuesday night in Savannah as Hardin County defeated McNairy Central 40-37 in girls’ basketball action. Bradley hit a pair of threes and finished with 12 points to lead the way for Hardin County. Kayla Brown led McNairy with nine points and Katie Forsythe added seven. Hardin County led 31-22 after three quarters before a late surge from McNairy made things interesting down the stretch.

Melrose stops Hardin County in second round

Photo by Jeff Boyd Melrose’s defense was stout and the offense got off to a quick start Friday night in Savannah in the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs. The result was a 26-0 Golden Wildcat win that ended Hardin County’s season at 9-3. Melrose (8-4) plays Mitchell in the quarterfinals Friday night. Eric Watson scored three touchdowns, one on a 60-yard pass from William Gross and two others on a one-yard run and a 60-yard run. Melrose led 20-0 at the half. Mason Tidwell led Hardin County with 85 yards on 15 carries.  

Late TD propels Hardin County past Ridgeway

Hardin County got a fourth quarter touchdown to finish off an impressive comeback and defeat visiting Ridgeway 21-20 Friday night in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs. The Tigers (9-2) will host Melrose Friday night in round two. Quarterback Barker Burnham scored the game winner on a one-yard run and Eddie Espinosa added the all important extra point. Ridgeway (4-6) led 14-0 after one quarter. Burnham hit Carter Carroll on a 21-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and Daniel Avila scored on a one-yard run in the third quarter. Mason Tidwell led Hardin County with 75 yards on 18 carries.
