Dye leads Dyer County past Bolivar

Photo by Roger Smith Dyer County sophomore Dylan Dye had a another big game Friday night in Newbern, and the result was a second straight win for the Choctaws. Dye threw for 313 yards and five touchdowns as Dyer County defeated Bolivar 35-7.

The Basics Head coach:  Keith Perry (7th season) District:  14-AA 2008 Record:  3-6 Playoffs:  Did not qualify Base offense:  Spread Base defense:  5-3 Returning starters:  2 offense, 3 defense Overview Senior Nick Ellison moves into the quarterback spot for the graduated Jason Overton. The offensive line should be in good shape with the return of three guys who have experience. Senior Rosco Gudger (6-1, 235) and juniors Steve Simmons (5-10, 225) and Exzavion Morrow (6-1, 230) all return.  Morrow and Gudger will also be mainstays on the defensive side of the ball. Senior Lavion Sain (5-11, 180) is a quick cornerback who started last season.

Fans of Bolivar High School basketball can take in about three hours of good basketball on Tuesday and Friday nights because the girls’ and boys’ teams are enjoying excellent seasons this year. The boys, coming off a state quarterfinal appearance last year, were expected to be good and they have been. Through mid-January the Tigers were 13-2, undefeated in District 12-AA and ranked among the top five teams in the state. The girls, meanwhile, have been nearly as impressive, winning four straight December games. A loss to McNairy Central has been the team’s only setback in league play. Last season Bolivar nearly sent two teams to Murfreesboro, but the girls lost to eventual state champ Marshall County in the sectionals.  This year it looks like…
