Arlington defeats Millington, remains perfect

Photo/story by Thomas Sellers Jr. The District 14-3A championship was on the line Friday night in Millington. The hosting Trojans were looking for its third straight title. But the visiting Arlington Tigers had a perfect season on the line. And with Kyle Mitchell’s 27-yard field goal in overtime, the Tigers were victorious 10-7 and owners of a 10-0 campaign. In muddy conditions, the Trojans (5-5, 4-2 in District 14-3A) were controlling the ball with the running game. But two turnovers kept Millington scoreless. The second miscue occurred on first and goal from the seven-yard line. Arlington recovered the fumble and turned it into a 92-yard Taylor Tornabene touchdown run on the very next play. Arlington remains perfect with win over Craigmont

But Tiger quarterback Adam Poole came up with a pair of huge play to propel his team to a 19-14 win. With just under three minutes to go and Arlington trailing 14-13, Poole hit Jordan Leakes on a 70-yard pass play to the Craigmont 10. Two plays later he hit Jake Boring on a five-yard touchdown pass with 1:50 left to help the Tigers move to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in District 14-AAA. Houston, Brighton place at AAA golf tourney

By Steve Hendrickson The Brighton High School 2009 boys and girls golf teams coached by Barry White finished a truly great season of golf this year finishing seventh and eighth,respectively, at the TSSAA 2009 Class AAA State Golf Championship held at Old Fort Golf Course last week.  The 36-hole event hosted eight teams from across the state including team champions Farragut (Boys) and Soddy Daisy (Girls), Hendersonville, Cookville, Ravenwood, Siegel, Houston, Brighton, and Cocke County.  The individual Class AAA State champion for the boys was Jordan Jennings from Jefferson County (143) and for the girls was Taylor Manning from Ravenwood (141). “This was a culmination of a lot of hard work by our boys and girls teams,” said BHS head golf coach Barry White.  “The…
