McKenzie offense too much for Adamsville

Austin McKinney and Quinton Bowden each had outstanding games Friday night in McKenzie as the Rebels defeated Adamsville 46-20 in the Class 2A state quarterfinals. The Rebels (11-1) move into the semfinals and will travel to Trousdale County Friday night. McKenzie led 18-3 at the half and put the game away in the third quarter. Jake Johnson had a two-yard touchdown run in the period, John Johnson ran back an intererception 30 yards for a score and McKinney hit Richie Clark on a 69-yard touchdown pass. Bowden rushed for 121 yards on 15 carries and McKinney completed 7 of 21 passes for 128 yards. Bradley Melton led Adamsville, completing 13 of 21 passes for 154 yards. .

Adamsville downs West Carroll, keeps rolling

Photo by Beth Tidwell Heading into Friday night’s game with West Carroll, Adamsville had already clinched the District 15-A title. If the Cardinals were lacking motivation, it didn’t show. Melvin Daniels had three short touchdown runs early and the Cardinals (9-1) cruised to the 46-13 victory. Cody Nelson and Andrew Waynescott each had second half touchdown runs for West Carroll (5-4), but it wasn’t nearly enough. Adamsville is off Week 10 before beginning the playoffs Nov. 6. West Carroll will host Bruceton Friday night.

Milan duo, Covington golfer place in top 20 at state

Several West Tennessee golfers fared very well Oct. 13-14 in Murfreesboro at the Class A-AA Girls State Golf Tournament. The Milan duo of senior Lindsey Taylor and junior Leah Watson placed ninth and 13th, respectively, to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a fourth-place team finish. Taylor shot a 168 (81-87) on the Old Fort Golf Course and Watson carded a 176 (90-86). Olivia Fowler, a Covington junior, shot a 178 (91-87) to finish in a tie for 16th place. The Trinity Christian Academy girls finished eighth as a team. The Lady Lions were led by junior Emily Williams’ 202 (92-110), senior Mary Carolyn Neil’s 224 (114-110) and sophomore Allie Carpenter’s 222 (106-116).
