For Fremd senior pitcher Clint Terry a little bit of both doesn’t hurt either. In the top of first inning in Thursday’s regional semifinals against Prospect Terry belted a two out, two-run homer off Knights’ senior pitcher Miles Osei en route to the 4-1 win. In most cases Prospect’s offense could overcome an early 2-0 deficit. As Knight coach Ross Giutsi pointed out after the game his team set school records in runs scored (263), RBI (248), and team batting average (.371) this season. But as the old saying goes, “Good…
The Pirates display their regional championship plaque after defeating Prospect. Story and Photos By: John Juettner It’s tough to stage a late comeback in a volleyball game. With rally scoring, any mistake means a point for the opposition. When trailing 22-18, as Palatine was to Prospect in the first game of the teams’ regional final match at Highland Park on Wednesday, it meant mistakes couldn’t be made. The Pirates did just that, scoring seven of the next eight points for a 25-23 game one victory. Palatine then won game two 25-18 to capture the regional championship and move on to the sectional semifinals, which will be played at Palatine. “That was huge,” Palatine…
Prospect senior players are honored before the game as a part of Senior Day. Prospect coach Ross Guisti Knights’ battle in the 13-3 victory in six innings - motivation and trust. After a draining 5-2 loss at Hersey on Monday, Guisti said the let down carried over into the game against the Wildcats. It was present in the form of bad base running. In the first inning a Knight runner was caught trying to advance to third from…
Sophomore infielder Dani Goranson shows a bunt for Elk Grove on Friday night. Story and Photo By: Charlie Burroughs A dynamic pitching duo and patient hitters has put Elk Grove girls’ softball team back in the Mid-Suburban league title game. The win 5-0 over the Prospect Knights, who are in second place in the Mid-Suburban East, on Friday evening, gives the Grens enough of a cushion to claim their third straight title game (10 out of 11) with four games left in the season. “We try to keep separation from the rest of the division,” coach Ken Grams said. “We don’t have to talk about that anymore because this game would do it. That’s our first…
Photos By: Charlie Burroughs Story By: Rikki Greenberg Prospect’s boys’ volleyball performance during its two game comeback against Hersey wasn’t the only confident statement made Tuesday evening. “The worst kid on this team is better than any kid I’ve ever coached. That’s a pretty bold statement but I stand behind it,” said Prospect coach Mike Riedy after defeating Hersey two games to one. The abundance of cheers and high fives coming from the Prospect starting six during the last leg of the three game series stands as good supportive material Riedy’s confident assessment of this 2010 team. Hersey could have been the ones to win the “Most Team Spirit” award with an early…
