Story and Photos By: John Juettner The prolonged attack trumped the quick strikes in Monday’s boys’ lacrosse game between Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg. The Hawks were able to control play for most of the game – and rebound when Schaumburg found the back of the net – on their way to a 10-5 win over the host Saxons. Hoffman scored the first five goals of the game, but two quick goals before halftime from Schaumburg midfielder Zack Beck, and attacker Ryan Matyas suddenly put the game within reach for the Saxons when the second half began. Hawks junior pitcher Emily Allan delivers a pitch against Barrington on Friday. Story and Photos By: Charlie Burroughs Hoffman Estates’ softball team is learning to play a full game. Friday against Barrington they played part of one in a 13-3 loss. “We have to learn to play seven innings,” Hoffman Estates coach Lindsey Hamma said of her young ball club. “We came tough for three innings; we stayed mentally tough for three innings. In that fourth inning we let the pressure get the best of us.” Through three and a half innings the Hawks looked on par with the Fillies (28-4, 12-3), who are in second place in the Mid-Suburban League West. After falling behind 3-0,…

During that stretch Hoffman junior goalie Jonathan Pape made some big saves, and he didn’t let up for the rest of the night. Pape backed the Hawks to an 8-0 win against the visiting Pirates. “I just came out and tried to stop them all,” Pape said. “That’s all…
Jeremy Salzman celebrates his home run with Andrew Van Wazer (30) Photos and Story By: Charlie Burroughs The Buffalo Grove baseball team knows preparation breeds success. Even if that means simulating in practice the left-to-right wind that often spreads over their home field. “We’re getting kinda used to the wind howling across like this,” Bison Coach Jeff Grybash said. “Our hitters are disciplined enough to let it travel and hit it to the right center gap.” It was two Hoffman Estate right field “errors” that opened up a 10 run second and an eventual 12-7 victory for the Bison Wednesday evening. The inning began with a solo home run by Bison senior pitcher…
