Fremd players celebrate their MSL championship after the final out was recorded. Story and Photos By: John Juettner There is no wrong answer. A strong case could be made for either player. The question is: Who pitched better in Saturday’s Mid-Suburban League boys’ baseball championship game between Fremd and Hersey? Was it Vikings lefty Clint Terry, who pitched a complete game, struck out eight, and allowed three hits and five walks to Husky hitters? Or was it Hersey’s Steve Danielak, who also pitched a complete game, allowed just two hits, walked none and struck out four? One thing known is the final score: 1-0 in favor of the host Vikings.…
Barrington celebrates its MSL Soccer Bowl win over Hersey. Story and Photos By: Charlie Burroughs Take the best moment in your entire life and multiply it by 100. A wild description by Barrington sophomore midfielder Kathryn Avedon about her game winning goal during penalty kicks over Hersey in Friday’s Mid-Suburban League Soccer Bowl. An exhausting two period, two overtime scoreless defensive match came down to the fifth frame in a shootout. Fillies and Huskies got a chance to showcase their offensive talent during the one-on-one shootout and four straight players from each team successfully scored. That’s a pretty bold statement but I stand behind it,” said Prospect coach Mike Riedy after defeating Hersey two games to one. The abundance of cheers and high fives coming from the Prospect starting six during the last leg of the three game series stands as good supportive material Riedy’s confident assessment of this 2010 team. Hersey could have been the ones to win the “Most Team Spirit” award with an early…
Story and Photos By: Charles Burroughs It only took a few small errors in the first inning for Fremd to defeat Hersey 7-1 Wednesday evening. In the bottom of the first through four pitches, Heresy junior pitcher Joe Perricone had allowed no base runners and had recorded two outs. A single by Fremd senior outfielder Zenon Kolakowski was followed by a Hersey infield error prolonging the inning. A wild pitch and walk loaded the bases for senior second baseman Kevin Ciardiello who drove in two runs with a single to left field. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game where we started so well,” Hersey coach Bob Huber said. “We get a strikeout and a…
