Such was the case for Schaumburg boys’ volleyball team who defeated Conant in two games Thursday night. Energy and emotion that seemed to lack in recent days for the Saxons wasn’t present in the 25-22 and 25-21 straight game sets over the Cougars. At that time, junior forward Elise Kotsakis scored her second goal of the game to put the host Vikings up 3-1, which served as the final score. “It was kind of nerve-wracking,” Fremd coach Steve Keller said. The Conant Cougars won the Mid-Suburban League boys’ gymnastics championship thanks to a great group effort. It may have not been Conant’s best performance all year. Still the Cougars managed to pull away from the field at the Mid Suburban League boys’ gymnastic conference meet Friday at Fremd. Conant cruised to the title with a score of 155.95. Fremd was second with 148.75 points, Palatine third with 148.00, Elk Grove was fourth with 138.75 and Buffalo Grove was fifth with a 136.45. After the contest both squads felt like the game was closer than the result indicated. The Conant offense was able to put 14 more shots on goal than Palatine. For the fourth consecutive year, Fremd is the Mid-Suburban League champion in the sport. The Vikings scored 68 points for the meet, beating out Buffalo Grove (63), Hersey (42), Palatine (36), and Prospect (35.5).
